The Virtual Grand Final will be an innovative show, broadcasted live from a studio using Augmented Reality (AR) technology. On the evening of May 18th, it will be decided which of the eight finalists have the most brilliant and innovative idea based on their live pitches. During the show, Simone Brummelhuis, founder and director of the Borski Fund, will share her experience with entrepreneurship and innovation. In the end, the jury, chaired by CEO of Royal Philips, Frans van Houten, will decide who will win the €50.000,- Innovator Award and the €10.000,- Rough Diamond Award.
The 5 startups that are competing for the Innovator Award are Applied Drone Innovations, DeWarmte, Intense, Lalaland and Playground VR. Applied Drone Innovations is on a mission to become the Google of AgriData. They bridge biology and technology, providing an eye in the sky for the Dutch horticultural sector. DeWarmte has developed a product that efficiently recuperates heat from the sewage drain located in the underfloor service void of any house. Intense developed a keyboard that can detect the early symptoms of stress-related diseases. Lalaland uses neural networks to generate images of artificial humans and by doing so it enables shoppers using a website to filter on size, skin-tone or age and see the respective display model change. Finally, PlaygroundVR brings hospitalized children together in a unique VR-playground experience to connect with each other.
The 3 startups that will be competing for the Rough Diamond Award are Lunal, Rocknroo and Syntho. Lunal is a comprehensive app-based platform that offers contraconception ‘as a service’, supported by a model that suggests the right type of contraconception based on AI. Rocknroo’s hands-free chest shaped pillow mimics the warmth, heartbeat, and, breathing of a parent. This provides babies with a feeling of comfort while allowing the parents to carry on with their daily activities with less stress. Finally, Syntho offers a synthetic dataset that can be used for any data analysis as would be possible with an original dataset, but without any privacy risks.
We hope to welcome you at the Virtual Grand Final of the Philips Innovation Award on the 18th of May at www.phia.nl!
