Philips Innovation Award to Host Virtual Semi-Final

Philips Innovation Award to Host Virtual Semi-Final

Rotterdam, Netherlands – March 23, 2020

The Philips Innovation Award will host a virtual Semi-Final in response to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

The Philips Innovation Award is carefully and continuously monitoring the latest updates on the recent outbreak of the coronavirus. The Dutch National institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the Municipal Health Service (GGD) remain our leading sources of information. The latest measure with regards to containing the coronavirus is the closing of all schools, bars and restaurants as well as the prohibition of events with over 100 people attending until the 6th of April in the Netherlands.

Given that the Semi-Final on the 8th of April attracts well over 600 visitors, the Board of the Philips Innovation Award has decided to cancel the Semi-Final event in its current form. “The safety of our participants, partners and visitors remains our top priority. In light of the health safety advice for the Netherlands, we will deliver our annual Semi-Final event as a virtual event, in lieu of an in-person event. We look forward to bringing together our semi-finalists and jury members in this new virtual format, which will be accessible to everyone,” said Chairman Emile Fauquenot, representing the board of the Philips Innovation Award.

The Semi-Final event will be digitalized and broadcasted via our social media platforms and website in the week of April 20, 2020. The Philips Innovation Award will publish daily videos of the semi-finalists’ 1-minute elevator pitches, as well as the jury’s comments and Q&A. At the end of the week, on April 26, 2020, the 8 finalists who will receive a ticket for the Grand-Final will be announced.

Needless to say, if, in the coming days, additional measures are announced by the RIVM or GGD, the Philips Innovation Award will adhere to those measures as well.
